Your responsibilities

Leads the design and development of new products and product improvements. Is responsible to meet Engineering project targets across the Upper Steering Products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for all product design related activities on upper steering projects:
    • Manages head count resource planning and projects assignment
    • Manages engineering tasks priorities across platforms and customers
    • Is the first escalation level for X-department concerns with Engineering Deliverables
  • Lead new design development and packaging study with project team, conduct design feasibility & manufacturability investigation with the supplier base.
  • Consider product benchmark analysis and identify new benchmark activities.
  • Responsible for following Presta Product Life Cycle process & maintain PLM database at the released level.
  • Co-Responsible for BOM on prototype builds, for the prototype components RFQ process & suppliers technical feasibility assessments, the components delivered quality, timing and usage. Leads the planning and excecution of all prototype build. Resolve priority conflict within project teams.
  • Leads development of test plan to validate new design ideas, responsible for testing and Design Of Experiment accuracy, design pedigree correctness and overall excecution.
  • Responsible for having test fixtures, software and proper equipment to complete Design Validation. Coordinate with the Validation Engineer Function.
  • Responsible for summary accuracy and project team level reporting accuracy for tests/FEA/Stack-up/etc results, leads the definition of next development steps to ensure product robustness level is met at the different project milestones.
  • Responsible for design change management during development, manages supplier feasibility issues & processing issues. Responsible for design risk assessment and design robustness status.
  • Responsible for the Column interface matrix documentation and the DFMEA.
  • Understand project timing and its impact on Engineering tasks deliverables. Drive the engineering team and the extended project team to support engineering milestones.
  • Problem solving: Is familiar with problem solving tools and methodic. Reports on problem solving status. Ensure lessons learned across Engineering Team.
  • Strong knowledge of die casting, stamping and plastic component design and processing.
  • Design for Manufacturing. Leads the interface to manufacturing engineering and is working on best compromise and implementation of DFM lesson’s learned and best practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will supervise all product development engineers and will carry out all supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, training and coaching employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Your profile

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field with over 5 years' experience in the automotive industry, steering system preferred. Advanced Engineering Degree is a plus. Experience using DOE, FEA, Statistics, problem solving tools, APQP, FMEA, Poka Yoke Design/Design for manufacturability, and AIAG automotive standards.
