Job Summary
The Base Metals Trader is responsible for developing and managing profitable physical metals trading opportunities for the North American market based on global supply. This role combines strong commercial judgment, market analysis, risk management, and relationship-building to support sustainable growth, optimize capital use, and deliver strong P&L performance.Job Description
- Develop, maintain, and expand strong relationships with customers, global suppliers, internal trading and operations teams, third-party service providers, and senior management.
- Identify and execute new commercial opportunities, transaction structures, and market strategies that support business growth and profitability.
- Formulate and present competitive commercial proposals based on market dynamics, competitor activity, company positioning, and short- and long-term strategy.
- Execute spot and long-term purchase and sale agreements for physical base metals while managing related price exposure through futures and options on global exchanges, including the LME and CME.
- Monitor macro and micro market trends, forward curves, volatility, inventory levels, desk positions, and P&L to support informed commercial decisions and effective risk management.
- Provide regular market updates and insights to trading teams, peers, and senior management.
- Oversee the full trade lifecycle, including trade capture, confirmations, logistics, settlements, and dispute resolution.
- Coordinate with operations teams to ensure efficient movement of commodities from suppliers to end users while optimizing capital consumption, shipping, delivery, return on capital, and profitability.
- Negotiate commercial terms with suppliers and counterparties to optimize P&L and capital utilization.
- Ensure trading and operational activities comply with technical, internal, legal, and federal requirements.
- Travel to customers, suppliers, and industry events as needed, approximately 20–40%.
- Demonstrate TKMNA employee attributes and competencies, including sound judgment, accountability, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Proven experience in physical base metals trading, commercial negotiation, and P&L ownership.
- Strong understanding of global metals markets, pricing mechanisms, hedging tools, and commodity exchanges.
- Deep knowledge of the trade lifecycle, including logistics, settlements, financing, and risk controls.
- Ability to build trusted relationships across customers, suppliers, internal teams, and senior stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills in a fast-moving commercial environment.
Job Compensation
