Your responsibilities
As Project Director, you carry overall accountability for the successful delivery of strategically critical Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication (EPF) projects in the field of alkaline water electrolysis or chlor alkaline electrolysis . You lead at executive level with ownership to deliver complex projects covering engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning on schedule, at cost and at quality. The role requires business judgement, solution orientation, technical credibility and the ability to manage international teams, drive decisions and secure results in complex settings with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- You hold end-to-end accountability for the full EPC project lifecycle, from bid support and handover into execution through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and final handover to the client
- You establish the project execution plan and own the interface to all internal and external executive level project stakeholders, in order to lead complex projects with clarity, speed and control
- You integrate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, commercial management and contract administration into one integrated global, cross-functional and intercultural project team
- You challenge bid assumptions, execution concepts, schedule logic, partner models and resource plans before project start in order to secure realistic and executable baselines
- You own delivery performance against schedule, cost, margin, cash flow, quality and contractual commitments and intervene early where deviations threaten project outcomes
- You actively govern technical, commercial, contractual and interface risks and ensure that mitigation, recovery and decision measures are implemented with discipline
- You safeguard contractual entitlement through structured change management, claim strategy, escalation handling and robust decision documentation
- You act as the primary interface to project sponsors, steering committees, customer decision-makers and key external partners in critical project matters
- You are able to dive into technical problem solving when required, bring credible depth in at least one relevant technical field, and drive your execution team toward timely, robust and executable decisions
- You lead critical project situations with clear priorities, direct interventions and fact-based decisions, including phases of instability, recovery or major change
- You strengthen the project organization by guiding Project Managers and senior discipline leads and by setting a clear standard for execution discipline and accountability
Your profile
- You have completed a degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a comparable technical discipline
- You have extensive experience of more than 10 years leading major EP / EPF / EPC(m) projects in the chemical or energy business with high technical, contractual and stakeholder complexity
- You have a proven track record of steering projects through difficult phases such as bid-to-execution transition, execution ramp-up, major contractual changes, recovery and in periods of significant delivery pressure
- You combine executive presence with delivery discipline and are able to lead large cross-functional and intercultural organizations without relying on disciplinary authority
- You bring strong command of project economics, including cost forecasting, margin protection, cash development, schedule impacts and recovery planning
- You understand how contract strategy, change management and claims affect project outcome and know how to steer these topics together with the commercial function
- You bring sufficient technical depth in at least one relevant field and are able to structure, challenge and steer engineering-driven solution development
- You make sound decisions under uncertainty and create clarity in situations with incomplete information, multiple interfaces and high stakeholder pressure
- You hold a recognized senior project management certification, such as PMP or an equivalent qualification
- You are fluent in English and preferably also German
- You are willing to undertake extensive international travel as required by the project and are prepared to accept extended assignments abroad when necessary
