Your responsibilities
Position Overview:
The Civil Structural Engineer is responsible for the execution of structural engineering and design documents according to project budget, schedule and quality. Reports in a strong matrix organization to the Lead Structural Engineer and to the Engineering Manager for the project.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interacts with a group of engineers and designers providing technical direction primarily at a project level. Projects will primarily be located in North America and may be green or brown field. Project personnel may be located at the same office location, or remotely in other time zones and may also not be direct employees.
- Ability to perform duties of responsible engineer over engineering work under supervision, including sealing of contract documents when required. Documents required to be sealed may be, but not limited to: engineering specifications for foundations and structural engineering, piling arrangements, foundation arrangements, foundation drawings, anchor bolt layouts, structural arrangements, and compressor foundations.
- Sets priorities and reconciles conflicting interests over the duration of a project.
- Demonstrates through their actions an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- Viewed as a technical resource on communicating to project team members and vendors regarding discipline expertise and guidance .
Lead Function Responsibilities:
- Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work for a project.
- Plans, schedules or coordinates the preparation of documents or completion of activities for multiple projects.
- Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.
Your profile
Required Knowledge/ Skills, Education and Experience:
- BS or MS in Civil or Structural Engineering with emphasis on structural steel and concrete design.
- 18+ years minimum civil structural engineering experience in the industry. (MS degree may count toward 1 year of work experience).
- Structural engineering experience in the power, petrochemical, heavy industrial, chemical plants and heavy industrial process industry. Additional industries may be considered based on experience gained.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) license.
- Ability to promptly obtain additional P.E. license and/or registration as needed for business.
- Ability to operate as Designated Professional (or similar depending on jurisdiction) as necessary for business or organizational needs.
- Continual maintenance of professional registrations obtained.
- Holds NCEES record.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Knowledge/ Skills, and Experience:
- P.E. License in Canada.
- Experience in module design.
- Meets Model Law Engineer requirements.
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) holder.
- Construction field experience.
Additional Qualifications:
- Interprets, organizes, executes and coordinates engineering assignments on a project level.
- Assures all engineering work is carried out in accordance with tk Uhde technical standards and procedures, and applicable governmental regulations.
- Fully versed in the operation of the structural engineering discipline, and maintains an advanced level of understanding for how engineering concepts are applied to solve problems.
- Assists upper level management as well as other engineering disciplines as required.
- Supervises the preparation and review of design drawings, calculations, visual aids, technical specifications/data sheets for complex structural systems.
- Familiar with the standard engineering office computer software including Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Power Point.
- Knowledge and use of ACAD, TEKLA, STAAD pro, MAT3D, Navisworks is preferred.

- Physicals demands: While performing job duties, incumbent is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, utilize objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms while visually maintaining focus which includes close and distance as well as peripheral vision. While working in the field, incumbent may also be required to lift up to 25 pounds and have the ability to climb staircase, and/ or ladders.
- Work environment: This role is primarily in an office setting. However, while at the client or vendor site, the incumbent will be working in a field environment.
