Your responsibilities
Summary
As a Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer, you will help to develop suppliers and collaborate on building the best solutions to resolve quality related issues in their Quality System and/or Manufacturing Processes during the development and serial production phase. Additionally, this position requires frequent travel to suppliers in the USMCA regions. This position requires a strong commitment to safety.
Area of Focus:
The Supplier Quality Engineer has progressive levels, Supplier Quality Engineer and Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer. At the Sr. level, employees have additional responsibilities:
Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer:
- Provides support for the Dynamic Components group, for all the commodities in America.
- Supports serial production and product quality activities as needed.
- Interprets and teaches quality assurance philosophy to supplier personnel.
- Facilitate and monitor supplier trip reports and technical meeting minutes.
- Dual Reporting: Plant Quality Manager and the worldwide Head of Supplier Quality Management.
- Conduct Process Readiness Audit at supply base.
- Supplier Quality representative on project teams supporting with the following responsibilities: interface between project team and SQM Commodity, tracking of component status, perform and support supplier, APQP, PPAP, IMDS, changes notices, and other supplier quality related activities.
- Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing supplier data and making recommendations to management team and in purchasing conferences.
Your profile
Key Deliverables:
The Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer serves as an engaged and trusted source in the organization. Success in this role is measured by Supplier complaints, internal deviations due to supplier issues, and quantity of red, yellow, or green suppliers. Key deliverables to ensure success are listed below:
- Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all safety and environmental policies in the workplace. Advocates for and promotes a safe work environment by reporting Near Misses and/or other safety and environmental hazards, wearing all required PPE and encouraging others to do the same.
- Has authority to stop processes to correct quality, safety or environmental problems, identify and place suspect products on quality hold, and to promptly notify Supervisory personnel when processes become noncompliant.
- Responsible for issuing Supplier complaints and managing the complete process until validation.
- Support technical meetings, APQP kick off and follow up meetings for the commodity.
- Supplier Quality representative on project teams supporting with the following responsibilities: interface between project team and SQM Commodity, tracking of component
- Perform and support supplier; APQP, PPAP, IMDS, changes notices, and other supplier quality related activities.
- Facilitate supplier generated change and deviation requests.
- Promote process improvement and support innovation of supplied components and how they interact with internal processes.
- Maintains a working knowledge of industry standards.
- Availability to travel domestically and internationally to the supplier base, conducting audits and validation of actions.
- Responsible for supervising Supplier sorting activities inside Dynamic Components plant(s).
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Language: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedures; effectively speak in public and present information and respond to questions from all levels of personnel throughout the organization and external groups. Ability to speak German and/or Spanish is a plus.
- Technology: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office. ERP/MRP experience preferred.
- Travel: Occasional travel, up to 30% domestically and internationally.
Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree with 5-7 years’ experience preferred. Experience in an automotive production facility. Ability to read and interpret drawings. In-depth knowledge of quality-tools especially FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPC, 8D, knowledge of measuring and test equipment. Knowledge of IATF 16949, QS 9001, VDA volumes and customer specific requirements. Basic knowledge of heat treat and manufacturing process.
