Our Product Engineer reports to the Product Engineering Group Leader and is responsible for all technical tasks related to new product development within a project framework (timeline and budget), as well as ensuring compliance with product specifications and regulatory standards.
Specific Responsibilities of the Job
- Develop product drawings
- Ensure production is feasible based on customer specifications
- Run virtual analyses of Fatigue bench tests (Torsion and bending boundary conditions) and Crankshaft balancing
- Work closely with Process Engineering departments on design for manufacturing (i.e. alternative materials, oil holes changing, counterweight optimization)
- Work closely with Quality department in order to investigate field failures reported by the customer
- Work closely to Customer Product engineering, identifying design changes and future product needs and trends
- Support cost savings ideas related to the product, including during quotation (Reduce input material, machining stock, design changes, etc.)
- Oversee technical assessment of products to develop customer quote through AQPQ process
- Act as liaison between sales and process engineering
- Develop timelines and summaries for new products or changes to existing products
- Make customer visits and communicate with customer
Profil
Education/Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering or related discipline
- At least 5 years of experience in process/manufacturing engineering position in machining
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Deep understanding of crankshaft manufacturing processes, including forging, machining, heat treatment, and finishing
- Knowledge of mechanical and metallurgical properties of materials
- Comprehensive knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and its application to crankshaft designs
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Capacity to adapt to changing priorities and quickly address urgent manufacturing issues
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations, including IATF 16949 and automotive quality standards (i.e. APQP, PPAP)
- Proficiency in using 3D modeling and simulation software including Pro- E, Creo, GOM, Altair Hyperworks/Simlab and AutoCAD
- Understanding of manufacturing principles and techniques, such as lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and procurement
- Ability to interpret and analyze technical drawings, specifications, and industry standards
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
